BEFORE APPLYING YOUR TAN
PREPARING THE SKIN
Prepping your skin can make the difference for the perfect result. With these tips and tricks, before visiting The Bronzing Studio and keeping your picture perfect tan will be easy:
- Wax or shave at least 48 hours prior to treatment. This allows the pores time to close. Dotting in pores may appear if not adhered to.
- A Must! Please Exfoliate 24 hours before your appointment paying particular attention to elbows, knees, ankles and problem dry areas. NO DOVE SOAP OR MOISTURIZING BODY WASHES!
- For the entire 24 hours before your appointment avoid using bar soaps, high pH shower products, oil based products or in-shower moisturizers. These products may act as a barrier against your skin and can prevent the fast acting tanning agents to not develop.
- Before your appointment, make sure your skin is clean and dry.
- Don’t apply moisturiser, perfume, deodorant or makeup on the day of application. Bring Loose Dark clothing and flip flops.
TIPS FOR AFTER
THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT IS THE SHOWER PROCESS!
After an hour (or longer – ASSIGNED BY TECH), shower quickly for 45 secs, with lukewarm water. The brown bronzers will wash away, while the fast tan actives continue to work and deepen IN THE NEXT 24 HOURS. DO NOT USE USE HOT WATER. It stops the development of tan actives during the development time. This is a common mistake people make, especially in the colder months. Once you shower, you can wear your favorite clothes, go out of the house and definitely not stain the bed sheets. Your tan will develop into a natural tan
RIGTH AFTER THE TAN
- Wear dark loose clothing. Tight clothing or underwear may cause marks. Wear loose fitting shoes.
- After 5-8 hours or 1 -4 Hours, with our Express tan. Shower quickly in lukewarm water for 45 seconds. Use plain water only, NO Soaps, don’t use shower gels, scrubs, shampoos or loofah during the first 24 hours after your treatment.
- Pat dry after your first shower. Do not rub your skin. You can shower normally the next day or in 24 hours.
- Moisturize after your first normal shower. Use The Bronzing Studio Everyday Gradual Tan so the tan is extended. Continue to moisturize every day to keep body hydrated so the tan lasts. Fake Tan will fade quickly on dry skin.
- After day 7, exfoliate with a soft body polish on a daily basis, to help your skin absorb even more moisturiser and keep it looking and feeling gorgeous.
YES. It is MUCH safer than exposing your skin to the sun’s rays, and you still get that great tanned look. DHA has been approved by the FDA for use in the personal care industry for over 30 years. No adverse affects have been reported other than minor skin irritations on allergic people. Allergic reactions are extremely rare and if you have experienced allergic reactions to self-tanning or other beauty products please arrange a skin patch test first with your therapist. We do recommend however, to be sprayed in a well ventilated area, or an area that includes a clean air/extraction unit.
There are different strengths of DHA and your therapist will advise you of the best one for your skin tone, bearing in mind how dark you want to go. The darker you tan naturally, the darker you will tan with a spray tan. We recommend leaving your spray tan on for 1 – 4 hours for Express or 5-8 for Organic before you lightly shower. Do not exceed more than 8 hours before your first shower.
Anyone who is allergic to self-tan or who has breathing difficulties. If in doubt or if you have further questions, please speak to your therapist or consult your local doctor before your appointment. Although considered mostly safe in a well-ventilated area and wearing a face mask or nose plugs, it is recommended women who are pregnant should always consult their doctor if they want a spray tan.
Spray tanning involves applying an active ingredient, dihydroxyacetone, or DHA, to your skin using a specialist low pressure spraying machine. DHA is a colourless sugar. It interacts with the proteins and amino acids in the outer layer of your skin to produce a golden brown colour.
Most spray tans contain an instant cosmetic bronzer that gives you a color guide and instant color when you are first sprayed. These instant cosmetic bronzers will wash away after your first shower and have no impact on the end result for your tan. It’s not the amount of cosmetic bronzers that make the individual solutions darker from one another, it’s the amount of DHA in the solution that creates varying results.
The spray tan will contain various amounts of DHA depending on the solution you choose. The DHA starts to activate immediately, 60% of this process is complete after the first hour yet the actual tan will continue to develop over the next 24 hours. All the cosmetic instant bronzers will wash off when showering. Your therapist will tell you how long to wait until you can bathe or shower depending on your skin color and how dark you want your tan.
